TAD Australia

Service Profile

In 2007, TAD organisations collectively provided 5,698 innovative equipment services to people with disabilities - people living not only in our capital cities but also in regional centres and towns across the country.

Custom designed aids supplied by TAD organisations are constructed to meet the specific needs of each individual, and the specific circumstances in which it will be used. The aids are not available on the commercial market so there is no other source of supply with the capacity to meet these needs. Two of the TADs also supply refurbished computers, with maintenance and help desk support.

Specialised technical advice is also available to clients and their carers and referral to other organizations able to assist with services outside the scope of our own.

Modification of commercially available equipment is also carried out to suit clients’ special needs. Excellent examples are wheelchairs and bicycles that provide enormous pleasure to many young people.

A TAD volunteer working in his home workshopVolunteer Input and Client Cost

TAD services are supplied remarkably inexpensively, by volunteers in the design, production and administration processes of the organisations. The cost to the client is restricted to the actual costs of materials used and the “out of pocket” costs incurred by volunteers, and these fees are sometimes waived when the client is in particularly necessitous circumstances.

The average total cost per service, across the group of organisations, is $635 but after fundraising, government grants and other subsidies it is estimated clients on average pay only $150.
